his family began producing wood products and ski edges in Annecy, France.   In 1966 Salomon unveiled the first ever binding with a self-release heelpiece.   Salomon bindings were used that year for the first time in Alpine World Ski Championships in Chile. </span><br /><br /> <span class="content_black">In 1972 Salomon became the number 1 binding manufacturer, selling more than a million bindings in that year alone.   In 1976 Salomon began creating apparel and gear under the Club Line.   Three years later Salomon began producing ski   boots, and were immediately successful.   </span><br /><br /> <span class="content_black">In 1990 Salomon launched their first ski, the S9000.   Eight years later the 1080 was launched, effectively the world's first mass market twin tip ski. </span><br /><br /> <span class="content_black">Salomon continues to explore different directions, with a full line of hiking footwear, inline skates, year round apparel, and snowboard equipment.
